and utterly useless in a real fight...
try judo, lots of women do it and its mainly grappling and throws, no silly flashy kick nonsense, or that krav maga thing is supposed to be good, I couldnt say for sure as Ive never done it.

Im concerned as read various general threads which say most martial arts are not effective in the real world and boxing etc is better, but will read up on it

Break the law and buy yourself some mace or pepper spray online. If you really need it at some time you'll not be bothered about being done for posession.

From the last 'what self defence/maartial arts' thread I remeber the general consensus was that krav maga was the best to actually defend yourself with, but not all that fun as there is no competition element like in judo for example where you have various belts and competitions.

Completely agree.

I have seen so much crap out there calling itself defense for women.

Krav Maga is the best form of self-defense for women but what women need to realize is, if they escalate the situation a man will probably do the same and it's at this point women get really hurt. The worst thing a woman can have in an encounter like this is over-confidence.

Mace is what I would suggest regardless of the legality of it and a pair of running shoes.

I studied Ninjutsu for a few years. I can't say it ever helped as I don't get attacked, but I'd like to think I'd know what to do if it did happen. Besides the weapons training it's a very defensive martial art and a lot of the moves rely on an opponent making the first move, such as grabbing or holding you.

I would recommend it to other women but it could be difficult to find a trainer. It's also a good conversation starter wink

I used to as Tae-kwon do not for self defence though!

It was fun but I gave it up because twice a week was too much for me, had other things on.

Do I think it would help me if I was attacked? In all honesty I've never considered being attacked and doubt Tae-kwon do would really help, more my mums advice of a kick in the nuts lol!

Really I suppose anyone could get attacked statically more likely to be men also worth considering whatho type of area you live/ go out in.

Best of luck but in all honesty I wouldn't go for Tae-kwon do

The hiding in bushes part helps immensely, although I do end up with a slight smell of conifer.
