22 hours without sleep

So how long have you gone?.

Its been a very long day. I was going to try the 24 hours but can hardly stay awake. Its very hard to type, probably because im half drunk.

Today about 12 hours or so - was feeling pretty tired about 5 hours in.

I've done I think around 40 hours pretty easily, could have done more - but there was no real reason to.

The longest I've gone without sleep is about four days thanks to a bout of E.Coli poisoning. The hallucinations were quite interesting although that might have had more to do with the huge amount of painkillers I was being given than the lack of sleep.

Indeed...and not just the once either. I recall an 18 hour straight stretch...extending to possibly 36?

I have been past the 24 hour mark before.

I start work very early, often up at 0300 and I also work Saturdays. On this particular occasion I was due at a social gathering with some mates in Kent. Got up at 0300, did work, finished at whatever time, st/shower/shave then drove down to Kent where the fun began. Copious amounts of alcohol (and, I must admit, other substances) later and somehow it's 0300 again.

Cue me standing up and proclaiming "I've been up for 24 hours!"

As a teenager I spend many nights falling asleep over my ZX81 or Spectrum for hours and hours.

During my RAF training I was once on the go for 27 hours. Wasn't that bad actually as I was keeping busy. Never let people hear the end of it. "12 hour shift? Pah! Let me tell you about the time I did 27 hours....!"

I worked cntinental shifts in the past 4 on 4 of.

2 day shifts then 2 night shifts 12 hours each.

I would wake up the morning of the first night shift, be up all day then work the night shift. Quite often for some reason even though I was shattered I still would not be able to sleep through the day and then spend another day and night awake.

My personal record is 38 hours, i was almost falling asleep standing up by the end though.

Actually, I've also done similar and if you're on the go all the time and with stuff to do it really isn't too bad. The hardest bit is always 6-8am IMO.

I've done 4 days once, and plenty of 2 and 3 days. This was 20-odd years ago. No way I could do that now. I've done a few 24 hours in the past few years - but that's my limit these days.
