Got paving slabs outside the front door. Keep getting weeds and other plants growing.

Want to make sure that nothing grows. Any PH gardeners advise what the best product is to buy.

Thank You.

as long as it's "systemic" it will kill all down to (and including) the roots. The problem with areas such as patios is seeds are blown in with the wind & birds, so new weeds will inevitably grow again at some point. However, the best time to apply a systemic weedkiller is during the growing season, something like May-October smile

Round up, a by-product of Agent Orange smile

After killing the little green intruders get some of the polymer type sand and sweep it into the spaces between stones. Once wet it will "set".
Obviously sweep it when dry or you will have a mess.

Pretty sure Roundup (glyphosate) is not related to Agent Orange in any way other than it is also a herbicide.

BTW a weed is a plant (see thread title); HTH.

Had to interpret your post slightly wink but if I understand correctly, yes.

Weeds are plants. I assume you mean non-target plants. Roundup is pretty good on everything that has a green leaf - a total herbicide. It's systemic and translocated but is contact-only, in other words it doesn't put down a residual barrier to kill anything germinating after application.

This is what I like about PH.

So, if I am reading what you say correct is there anything on the market that will put down a barrier to stop anything germinating after application?

Pathclear is pretty good for areas like patios & paths (obviously)- it claims to kill what's there and prevent any further growth (seems to work for a year or so).

Roundup is good, but you have to be patient as it sometimes takes a while to kill everything. Weedol acts quickly but doesn't seem to be as long lasting as Roundup.

Just that there was a research station for RP there for many years, where I worked as it happens, and your name was familiar, just wondered whether you worked there.....obviously not.

I don't think glyphosate (roundup) would be my first choice for areas I wanted to be permanently weed-free, unless it was one of the mixtures with something to suppress regrowth. It just kills actively growing plants through direct contact. Even old fashioned sodium chlorate might be better.
