Wetherspoon 99p pints!

Turns out Wetherspoon's pubs are doing pints for 99p! Amazing, but of course the killjoys and communists want to condemn it:

How can anyone be so sad that they think that 99p for a pint is a bad thing? If you don't want to drink it, don't. But at the same time don't start thinking anyone who does drink is evil and deserves to die a horrible death. I despise vegetarianism as I can't live without meat, but I don't go round wishing I could machine gun vegetablists in the face. Nor do I go happy slapping eco-mentalists, even though their idea that cars are evil is the most ridiculous thing ever.


PS sorry if it is a repost, search didn't come up trumps! I guess it could be a repost, this is PH after all and 99p pints would surely be welcomed.

Sweet. I thought their £2.10 for a pint of Coors Light was very good value anyway! I think they did it for £1.80 a pint on Mondays.

But how does a self-respecting PHer procure one (or several) of these pints without entering the very crucible of chavdom that is Wetherspoons?

I'm with the moaners. 99p for stuff that tastes like piss and is only good for chavs getting rat arsed. I'd much rather pay more and enjoy it (but then I wouldn't go to Wetherspoons, either).

That's debatable I suppose. Can't think of the last time I was at home drinking with mates and got into a fight. Whereas when you're out you're constantly on your guard.

I heard that. I was told they buy in large volumes and product that is close to being out of ticket.

Hence they can pile it high and sell it cheap.

I heard the same - they apparently buy beer which only has a couple of weeks to go until it's out of date. Guess they're one of the few chains that can sell large volumes that quickly. Good for them and good for the customer, I guess. No idea if it's true or an 'urban legend' though.

There is a Wetherspoons pub in Derby that is actually a decent place. A behemoth of a building (it is a former bank) beautiful architecture (again, from it's history as a banking hall) and they keep a decent pint.

No music, just a couple of plasmas with subtitled news/sports channels.

Mainly used as a meeting point at the start of a night - particularly at weekends - which means by 9.30/10pm, whilst still busy, it is a decent place for us old buggers to sit and have a few pints and catch up.

CAMRA have them to the good pub guide so I don't think the out of date beer thing holds water. They must sell so much of the stuff that their supply chain would be fecking scary if it were the case on their main servings. Maybe on the beer festival stuff they do.

Abbot tastes bloody good in the one where I work.

Had several pints in various jd's over the years, not had a bad one yet. Went into another well known chain of pubs, had one pint of pedigree, was outside projectile vomiting it back out within five minutes! Not very nice
