Today I went to purchase a new DVD HDD recorder as my Panasonic gave up the ghost yesterday.

I went to a Richer Sounds store and they had just sold out the Sony model I had gone for.

All that was left was a Samsung model of similar price and spec, so I bought it.

Now I've got it home and connected it up, I don't really like it......it's not up to the standard of graphics and user ease that I was expecting......so......am I entitled to take it back to swap for another brand just because "i don't really like it"?

ETA: This is no way a criticism of Richer Sounds as the service was great and I often buy stuff from them.

No.

Richer's are however pretty good with stuff like that and I would be surprised if you have any problems with a swap.

If there's nothing wrong with it then it's up to the discretion of the store. However you couldn't have known about the interface without trying it I suppose. That's one great thing about the Sonys, very intuitive. I had a Toshiba DVD-RAM thing for a short while and it was so badly designed I had to get he manual out just to delete a programme!

Richer Sounds always used to be good with things like that, but I'm talking about years ago, I don't know if they're still the same now. They used to allow, for example, the return of hifi gear if you didn't like it on account of the fact that they don't have listening rooms to try them out first.

Thats what I thought, I'm not after a refund just a swap to a Sony or Panasonic model.

7 day no-quibble return policy for website stuff, probably the same for in-store.

Thats out of the kindness of thier hearts, a less scrupulous (and I'm not putting Richer on any pedestals here) wouldnt take it back as, unless is nackered, they have no obligation to.

Be sure you walk out of the store with what you went in for in future! wink

Well clearly you should have fought for it, bare-breasted and each carrying an 8lb baby, in the old Highland manner.

I have nothing but high praise for the shop, just bought my 42" plaz from them & they are helpfull, informed & polite. They will give you a swap as long as it's in the packaging & condition that you bought it in.

And thats also a pretty good reason NOT to buy stuff from there!

If I shell out my hard earned I want NEW kit, not stuff thats been out, on someones wall for a few days, then they changed thier mind. smile

I've seen quite a few threads on AV forums about stuff from Richer that has clearly been out of the box, well thumbed manuals, scratched cases etc when they purchased it as new.

I've only just opened it up, so yes, I have all the packaging etc!!

I bought my Tv from them also, which I have nothing but praise for. Most of my AV equipment came from one branch or another and the service has always been excellent.

I'm going to call tomorrow morning and talk to them.

I know....I was having second thoughts in the shop but had just driven for an hour to get there and felt it would have been a wasted journey to go home empty handed. I thought I would take a chance but it's not up to the standard I'd get from a Sony or Panny one.
