Best place to buy laptop on the net?

I promised my youngest daughter we'd get her a laptop for her birthday later in the month, as such does anyone know the best place on the web to buy laptops? (By best I mean competitive prices coupled with good service).

I know some have had problems with them, But I've never had any and am always pleased with the prices at eBuyer.

At the moment I'd be looking not only at the traditionaly low cost options (Dell, Misco, Dabs, Ebuyer, Aldi Liddle etc), but also at people like PcWorld /Curry's etc all of whom are geting despirate to shift stock

Bought one of these:
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/504890/TO... just before xmas. Pretty good deal after lots of shopping around. Granted Comet may not be the best place to deal with should it have to go back.

Whatever you do avoid Acers -I've had two, both failed with numerous HW issues. The laptop I bought a couple of years ago failed in so many wierd and wonderful ways it was quite a ride!

Find it hard to recommend dell either as we use them at work. Quite a few failures, but then I do have a big sample to go at so don't know how they compare. Guy that sits next to me at work bought one for home and it's been back a couple of times since... (Dodgy RAM module and misc HW issues).

I'd stick with Sony, Toshiba or panasonic tbh.

i used to really like ebuyer. But since they have started asking for utility bills and photo id for purchases we don't bother anymore

I always seem to end up buying from Dabs. The laptop I bought for my daughter and the desktop I bought for my son from there this year were, as usual better value than anywhere else. In fact the only electronic item I bought from elsewhere was an Xbox 360 Elite with every extra imaginable, and that was from Game.

I got my Laptop (IBM Thinkpad T42) Dirt cheap as an ex-company refurb from a place called 'Sterling XS'.

Very cheap and next day delivery, depends if you want used though.

I have bought a Gateway from Tesco Direct which was very good ands a Sony Vaio hugely reduced at Currys - excellent buy. Currys also do very good deals on end of range Toshibas

Ditto, i got a cracking deal on a duel core Fujitsu for under £300

I use a company that only deals with other businesses, but are also only a few hundred yards from home, so makes life convenient.

Out and about visiting clients, IBM, Sony and to a lesser extent Dell are all ok for relibabililty. I'd avoid most of the rest. Unless you really need the portability of a laptop then get a desktop, cheaper and more reliable.

Laptops direct are cheap enough.

Best bet these days is to go down to PC World or Staples and take your pick from the stuff on offer. I got a decent Packard Bell from PCW and my gf got a nice HP media style laptop from Staples, both really good deals for the specs.

Its very odd. I've always had really good service from Dabs for our laptops, printers and components, and they've also always turned up long before they were expected hence not having a problem recommending them.

Suppose thats modern box shifting. Some you win, some you don't.
