Shotgun / rifle licence - how difficult to obtain?

I have recently moved into a semi-rural environment, in which there are vast numbers of tasty looking rabbits, pheasants and deer.

I have the space and location for a gun cabinet, question is, how difficult is it to obtain a licence and what do I need to do to get one for a shotgun, or even better a high-powered rifle?

I had Rabbit on holiday once, it was suprisingly tasty

As for the license, I haven't got a clue
