Potential eGay problem

Sold a phone on eBay, clearly listed as Vodafone mobile phone.

Buyer paid immediately via Paypal, we sent the phone.

Buyer receives phone and leaves positive feedback for us, we left positive as soon as he submitted payment.

All good so far.

Fast forward a week and the buyer is now whinging he is having problems getting it unlocked or something (the email was fairly illiterate foreign speak) - so have sent a response saying not our responsibility etc but willing to help. He wants a refund.

So, the question is - after leaving positive feedback can he reverse payment through Paypal at all?

knowing paypal, expect there will be some clause that lets them get the money back, u might want to contact them in some way perhaps ?

Yes. Some basket done it to me ages ago. Purchased a camera, left feedback saying happy. Next I get a Paypal flag demanding refund and a copy of a letter sent to eBay stating that my account should be stopped and he was going to the Police!!
Reason: This was back in the days when some early digital cameras did not work on rechargables (voltage) and he had tried this and failed. But his plan came unstuck as I stated this clearly on the auction

Sold a brand new (used once) Dewalt grinder - guy comes round and pays cash. Done deal. I asked if he wanted to see it working, he declined.

Turns out he couldn't get past the safety switch. What does he do? Reports me to ebay claiming that I sold him a faulty grinder. He then went on to leave negative feedback.

So many brain-dead idiots floating about that place.

Errr if its a Vodafone device does it even need to be unlocked? I was under the impression that Voda doesn't lock devices to start with

I think it depends on the phone and contract. But not sure.

I thought that Voda has a free unlocking service.

Withdraw any funds from your paypal account, set up a credit card and unlink your current account if thats setup

I had this problem a while back - I always set a code on my phones in case they get stolen (more to slow people down than as a locked phone is, I'm sure, easy enough to bypass) - I sold a phone, stating that it was locked to O2 (I think) and sent it on with the phone code.

Cue the moron buyer insisting that it was "locked" and his "expert" friend had checked it over and couldn't bypass the lock. The phone was sent back to me (this was in the days before the current draconion PayPal situation) and I put in someone elses SIM to prove that the buyer was a moron - I advised him what I'd done, sent it back, never heard from him again.

Anyway - if you've said that the phone is locked to a network and the buyer can't unlock it - that's his problem, not yours - I wonder if he's tried to unlock it, screwed it up and is now back-pedalling...

exactly the same thing happened to a friend recently. he agreed to give money back if buyer returned the handset. package arrives, which had been delivered and signed for, to neighbours house as he wasn't in. opens package and finds that instead of a phone, the is a nokia 6600 sized potato!!!!!! reported to paypal and ebay, but apparently paypal have still refunded the buyer thru themselves! seems like a bit of a scam! tend to stay away from ebay now myself!

This is the best advice. As long as you listed it as a Vodafone mobile, you've covered yourself, although Paypal may still shaft you if he requests a refund via them.

Paypal will probably shaft you red raw to be honest....

They wont give a flying toss about what is put in the auction and will just deduct the money from your account then make YOU sort it all out... Biggest bunch of tossers this side of a wking convention.

Still dont understand how they get away with this sort of business practice...
