Right then, i need some advise on how to correct my sleeping pattern. I went away for new years and completely messed it up and so the day before yesterday i decided not to sleep so that then i wuld be really tired come 10 - 11pm next day and fall a sleep then, but i then decided i would get 2-3 hours sleep at about 9am and ended up sleeping till half 5 yesterday evening. so then tonight i could sleep. went to bed at 2am, and ended up getting up without having slept about 10 mins ago with the intention of staying up till about 10-11pm again today.

now, is this likely to help me get back into a routine or is there any other way anyone can suggest, i start back at work on thursday so i really need to sort myself out by then

Thanks

Thom

If you're talking about messed up patterns due to time zone differences then there is not a lot you can do. Your body will adjust by roughly 1 timezone (hour) per day.

Don't sleep during the day, however tempting it is.

Sleep when you can, but only for a bit, then stave yourself awake until a normal sleeping hour; then drop dead.

Problem solved.

It's always a problem for me. When I have a week off I just wake up about an hour later and go to bed 2 hours later every day. In the end I'm sleeping something stupid like 6am-4pm. The way I always get out of it is just stay up all night. Get a DVD boxset and watch it start to finish or something. Then you have to resist the temptation to sleep during the day, so try going out or keeping busy in some other way. Then an early night that night and sleep 'til your usual alarm goes off.

Welcome to my world. I made the "mistake" of treating the Xmas holiday as just that - a holiday and staying up for as long as I felt like it, way into the wee small hours. Next thing I know, it's Sunday the 4th of January 2009 and I'm due in work at 0430 this morning. Didn't sleep a wink last night, as my body was still saying "Sleep? But it's still so early..."

To make matters worse, I'm on a Manual Handling course tomorrow and have been told I don't need to be in until 0900 - but then it'll be back to 0430 on Wednesday.

Oh well, I'll sleep when I'm dead.
