Cat problem

Dear all, I returned from hols on Saturday to find that a local cat had got through our cat flap whilst we were away and had pissed all over our kitchen (yes I know we should have locked the flap but we forgot) since we have got our moggy back from the cattery we have found that the offending cat has been through cat flap yet again and had another go.

We don't know what to do- any advice? We have a 2 way locking cat flap so were thinking of making it so that our cat could get out during the night but could not get back in (along with the other cat) or just locking the flap overnight and reintroducing the litter tray (not a popular move as have only just weaned our cat off it). I am tempted to stay up with an airgun. Any other options? It looks like it is a local Tom cat as it has sprayed the walls- smells basic!!

We got home one night to find another cat in our house (we have two) - the by thing was upstairs.

Apart from sitting up all night with a water pistol I think the only other option is a magnetic cat flap and the appropriate collar for your cat.

Lock the cat flap the other way so when Tom cat comes in he can't get out.
Then scare the living crap out of him (or shoot him if thats easier).

That looks good - as an alternative we used to have the same problem and avoided it by using a slightly lower tech version of the same thing; our cat used to have a collar with a coded magnet that opened our cat flap, it wouldn't open without the correct magnet. Solved the problem completely.

Not that this helps but we have the same issue we have three cats that are being terrified by a local cat.

I am thinking large high velocity water pistol or paintball gun !!

My three dont wear collars as they used to get caught up in trees etc etc

We had a problem with a cat who liked to steal our cats food and ste on our lawn !

Best thing leave your car door open (providing safe to do so) get your cat indoors let the other offending cat into your car go to work or for a long drive and let the offending cat out!

You can get magnetic catflaps associated to tags your cat wears; we've got one, it stays locked for any cats except our own.

We've had a problem with a local cat doing this exact same thing and we've tried a magnetic and infra-red collar - neither of which seem to work (I've since realised that our cat just has to be in internal range of the cat flap and the damn thing unlocks and lets in the other cat).

What you could do is lock the flap to allow the cat to only come in, wait until the cat comes in, put the/a cat basket on the other side of the cat flap, set the flap to allow exit only, chase the cat towards/into the flap/basket, lock the basket and deal with cat as you see fit.

I strongly reccomend that you don't do this at 1am while practically hallucinating from lack of sleep (new baby).

Naturally I've not tried this - y'honour. Honest.

Try to think of a way to close the cat basket without the cat escaping though....
