Anyone had any good/bad experiences with these guys? Found a nice sofa in the sale, but looking at least 10 weeks delivery.

Any feedback on whether deliveries/final product etc are any good would be appreciated.

Don't rely on ANY furniture supplier being in business in 10 weeks time.
If you must, pay by credit card so that your money is covered in the event they go into administration.

To be fair DFS are doing a nothing to pay for a year thing... got my sofa there. Worse case scenario they go out of business I have my sofa. smile

Just spoke with their delivery chaps, they got a raise and a bonus this year so think things are doing okay.

The only experience I have is 10 years old. I ordered a bed and bedroom furniture, Harveys put the delivery date back and back and were always unhelpful (I distinctly remember the branch manager being very obnoxious), even the national sales manager didn't offer any solutions. I don't remember the specifics but we ended up at the Citizens Advice Bureau and eventually appointed a lawyer. I haven't set foot in one of their stores since.

A thoroughly horrible experience - stay away from them.

We bought a leather sofa, after 4 months the frame broke it took another 4 months for them to eventually replace it.I have 3 pages of notes from phone calls and the names of 15 of their employees i spoke to about it,they even forwarded one of my calls to their warranty company when it was still under manufacturers guarantee.
Never again bunch of tossbags.
IMHO

We once looked at a dining table and chair set in there and took note of the price for the set. We didn't buy it but were amazed to see the very same set in the sale for over £100 more than the 'normal' price. I'm sure other places do this but we've never bothered with Harveys since smile

It's like all furniture - you get what you pay for.

There are some decent bits in there - genuine marble tables, some decent sofas, etc but a lot of it's crap.

Have a good poke around what you're buying. If it's a sofa, dig around the underneath and try and get inside to see what it's really made of. A lot of these cheap sofas are made from Vietnamese balsa wood and chewing gum.

I haven't heard of Harveys being in trouble but we don't really deal with them a lot. When it comes to service, Harveys, Furniture Village, et al are all much of a muchness really. If the furniture you've bought arrives OK you'll be fine. If it doesn't, expect problems greater than if you go to a decent independent or small-chain shop.

We've bought a couple of bits and pieces from harveys, so far it's arrived roughly on time and as described, on the strength of previous experiences we ordered a new sofa from them yesterday.

tis true you get what you pay for. ( I should know!;) )
Was out and about today and depressing myself in the Oxford branch as I needed a cheap guest bed. Guy was asking the assistant manager if it was safe to order and he said Harveys make all their stuff and have been making a continual growth on profits. He was pleased in the current market to be with Harveys.
I would however stay clear of the D F Sales people. Cheaper end Chinese imported.......

Got the kitchen table from them (cheap pine) already lasted 7 years now looking shabby. Would consider them again. As above delivery date slipped but by 2 weeks I wasn't in a hurry for it so no problem.

I ordered an expensive (for me, anyway) sofa and table from the Harvey's in Aberdeen a few years ago. When, 6 months later, it finally turned up it was delivered by two muppets from Glasow, was dumped in the middle of my living room (had paid for it to be assembled), and then they buggered off back down the road.

Was supposed to have 4 'leather care kits' (£20 each!) foc with it, only 2 were delivered and one of those we found they'd dropped in the street!!

Upon closer inspection, the sofa had been damaged and after loads of phone calls/visits to the store, eventually got a new one, which was assembled correctly.

The sofa and table are good quality (much better than DFS), but i'd rather sit on the floor than have anything to do with them again.

But hey, you might be lucky.

As I work for a furniture manafacturer/retailer, I would suggest that if you set up a finance/pay nothing for a year deal, then the arrangement will be with a finance company, rather than the compny its self. So if they go belly up, you'll still owe the finance company.

similar experience here for my parents.

My Dad had the seat collapse , they fixed it after a lot of phone calls , but said if it went again they wouldnt cover it as they were pensioners and were in sitting on it all day.

They even had the nerve to tell them that modern day furniture wasnt intended for lots of sitting on .

It did collapse again and i spent weeks having very frustrating calls with them .
