Going to Wuxi, China for two weeks and will have a weekend off in Shanghai. Any ideas for must do's while I'm there? I've been a few times before but not really had any time off before. I fancy doing the Bund, the market in the underground but what else?

Have a drink or two in the Cloud 9 Bar of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, on the 87th floor of the Jin Mao Tower.

Stop by the Jazz Bar at the Peace Hotel if it's still there.

Maoming Road, south side of the river, House of Blues and Jazz.
Face Bar and restuarant - Great Thai or Curry in Shanghai.
If you want to see the fake goods market and all the hubbub, its in the underground station of the science and technology centre. Pudong side of the river.
People watching at the China museam in Peoples Square.

Steer clear of anything like the Bourbon Bar in Henshen road - Good band, but full of Bar girls - would not recommend.

Crystal Jade is great. Hidden on the 2nd floor of the Xintiandi mall next to the TV tower.

I think that Jazz band will be there until the end of time.

I lived in Wuxi for 6 months in '99, there really was't much going on then and I doubt it has changed so you're doing the right thing by going to Shanghai for the weekend.

Things off the top of my head (this was c.10 years ago and Shanghai changes rapidly) but I had no cash at the time and did not properly appreciate the city:

Go up the Oriental Pearl TV Tower
Blag it up to the viewing deck of the Jin Mao tower
Stroll along the bund
Go out on the river
Many markets selling a variety of tat
Wander round the French concession

Try the Maglev train out to the airport if you've not been on it already. Good fun for a trip out and back, at up to 431 km/hr.

I enjoyed the Aquarium and for drinks try the bar at the top of the Le Meridian, looking out towards the Huangpu river, the Oriental Pearl TV tower and the Jin Mao tower close by; a fantastic view.

The Grand Prix circuit is impressive, if something is on. Won't be anybody there even if there is though...
