I'm not sure but I think they had only just been introduced when we did ours and we were repeatedly told how important they were and took great pains into filling it all in and adding relevant stuff over many hours and not one person ever looked at it at any college or job interview.

That's what i remember from it as well! I have a certificate in mine from a competition we entered in Economics to make as much money as we could from the stock market using a "Million pounds". Other schools entered and as i remeber we did pretty badly. I suppose it's a good way of accounting for non-curricular activities. It also doesn't do any harm doing it and these things generally have other benefits and skills they teach alongside the obvious message.
Saying that I didn't actually bother keeping any certificates, didn't even pick up my GCSE's/A-Level certificates

It was something along the lines of (...this was 16 years ago so I might have got it wrong)... Personal, Social Education....or lessons in life from your form teacher, talk about sex, drugs and drink - but not a fat lot that will actually 'HELP' in real life.

PSE filled in the gaps between those, but your forgot the other waste of space lessons like: R.E, German and French. Oh how the rest of my co-workers took the piss out of me for trying to use 'other' languages when working on-site outside the UK.I'm not including Art & Art History with the rest of the waste-of-time lessons because Mrs H was a hot chick and helped me with my personal development
