First off I know about the typo in the title, wouldn't fit otherwise!

Every day I see that another Israeli rocket has hit a school or an orphanage or a school for orphans or a school for teaching nuns to look after orphans.

Does anyone believe this propaganda. I know that rockets go astray, but I reckon if Isreal threw a small grenade into an empty field they would be responsible for killing 32 disabled blind children who were attending the funeral of the nun that used to teach other nuns how to care for orphaned children.

(Need to swap whatever the palestinian equiv for nun is!!)

Firstly, post in the right thread.

Secondly, when you release weapons into a built up civilian area you ARE going to hit the innocent.

This is more a cynical take on propaganda then an actual discussion on the situation.

about as much chance as launching rockets from a school.

I think you'll find that they're hitting a lot of other stuff too.

Until the IDF allow journalists into the area, we aren't going to get any information that has not come from a very biased source.

The Gaza thread is a couple of pages down, I think we should add this there.

It's also partially down to the Guerilla tactics of Hamas, by siting their rocket launchers in areas surrounding mosques, orphanages, hospitals and other 'good' buildings.

Israel have to carry out surgical strikes, but even with the best will in the world there will be some collateral civilian damage when the rocket launcher you're aiming for is on the floor above an orphanage.

Wounded children - far more newsworthy than the actual war.

God knows what the press would be like if WW2 was raging today:

1944 version: 'D-Day invasion troops gain foothold on enemy beaches despite heavy resistance'

2009 version: 'French children hurt in friendly fire incident - parents call for public enquiry and compensation from MoD'

They seek them here.
They seek them there.
They seek the Hamas everywhere.
Are they in heaven?
Are they in hell?

No - they're in the bunkers under the schools/hospitals/places of worship - the sort of places the Israeli's use for their civilian population to avoid the Hamas rockets.

Well, it's a bit like the first Gulf War in that respect IMHO.

I would not be tooooo surprised if certain people would willingly plant a bomb in one of their own schools and detonate them, for propoganda purposes.

I hate to be like this, but I’m slightly sceptical about the pictures of wounded women and children coming out of these types of incidence. We keep hearing that international journos are not allowed into the area. So who is providing the pictures.

In fact, I hope its all propaganda as it means not so many innocents are dying.

I think its closer to Hamas setting up explosives factories in their own schools.

Well the hit on the previous school was confirmed by the UN. Am sure there's lots of propaganda on both sides. But these sound like facts.

Saw somewhere that 1/4 of the Palestinians killed so far have been civilians. Now, what you call a "civilian" depends on which side you're one, but, if that's true, it sounds like Israel are actually hitting a way higher proporsion of Hamas fighters than I would have expected.

I would not disagree with such a hypothesis.

In both the war in Lebanon and now the news reports often talk of civilian casualties, while showing pictures of young men 'of military age' receiving treatment.

Yeah and you have to remember that children of a very young age are carrying guns and shooting "rockets" in that part of the world so even the 8 to 10yr olds up are considered "military age"

I believe it's called urban camouflage.

Oh I don't know. Probably about the same chance as every Hamas militant using a UN Ambulance to perform his duties:
