O/T: Any plumbers in the house? Rad valves...

This morning before going to work I found a weeping rad valve on the middle floor landing radiator.

At first I though it was the connection to the pipe, I tried tighten this without joy. So I though it must be the joint with the rad, no movement there.

The I took off the TRV and realised it was coming from around the spindle for the TRV. Taking the TRV off seemed to cure it.

I left some towels and toilet roll on the floor as a precation. I've just got in and found the one that was weeping this morning is fine, but the one on the other end has weeped slightly to. I found a couple more as well, curiously they are all on the middle of three floors, in the coldest parts of the house, hall/stairs/landing and the spare room we don't use much so have the heating turned down slightly.

Could it just be down to the freak cold weather?

House has been built just over 3 years, we've been in it 2.

yes, if the joints have become much colder than usual they can weep if they haven't been locked with any sealing compound. It will stop as the temperature rises to what has been normal before.

Thanks, I thought as much. Three failing on the same day would have to be some kind of record. Also, now the system is up to temperature they are fine...

well, it's acutally been 3 weeks and when I left it was quite mild, so didn't bother leavingthe heating running. I didn't forsee the coldest spell arriving since the dinosuars.
