Another redundancy question!
Discussion
I have been working at a small startup company for just over 1 year now and have a 3 month notice period in my contract. Now I knew the company were in trouble and had to make cuts so I offered myself up for redundancy. My boss reluctantly accepted this and has offered to pay my 3 months notice period and then give me an extra months redundancy payment (tax free I presume). I have agreed a clean exit and to work for the next month in order to properly hand over my work, after that my boss said he's happy for me not to come in anymore and that I should use the time to find other work.
My problem is (and its a nice problem to have) that I have already lined up and accepted another job (contracts are signed) and yesterday verbally agreed a start date of mid Feb.
My question is, is this going to cause any problems?
I presume that I'm not going to get my P45 from my current employee until after my 3 month notice period, so beginning of April, yet I need to start at the other company mid Feb.
I'm also worried about effectively being employed by 2 companies, I know for a fact that both my current and future employment contracts don't allow this.
My final question is around the payoff terms. The verbal discussion again yesterday was that my employee would continue to pay me monthly in Jan, Feb and March and then the redundancy money would be paid in April when my final day was scheduled. is this normal/allowed, or should they just pay me off and be done with me? This company don't have any real HR experience so they tend to wing these things.
Any experts out there with any advice?
Many thanks

NB - And as this is a motoring forum, I must add that I intend to spend the pay off money on a new TVR

I would have thought the existing employer would be keen to reduce your payout as you are technically employed by them. In order to start at the new role you should have terminated employment elsewhere, which would mean agreeing a shorter notice period and therefore a shorter pay off.
Then again, what are the chances of them finding out you have new work!
