Whats a good stain / varnish for wooden windows?

Morning All,

noticed that som eof our windows are looking a bit waether worn this winter, so just enquiring if anyone can recommend a good clear or lightly tinted stain or varnish of the outside of oak windows?

The stuff that I have used, and has been recommended to me by painters in the past is the brand Sikkens. This seems to have a high durability, although the stuff I have used has had a stain in it, as well as a protective capability.

"WADDS WAS HERE" stencils ere de rigour a few years back...

I've tried them all on my south facing sash windows and Sikkens wins hands down. Only downside it it seems to attract insects but that might be a coincidence. Make sure to remove all the old stuff first.

We were recommended Dulux Diamond: http://www.dulux.co.uk/products/info/diamond_tough...

You put the varnish down first and then the stain on top. It is very durable and leaves a fantastic finish.

thats a link to floor varnish... ? you use that on windows?
