Magistrate Brian Maloney told 19-year-old Cody Heap, in court for the third time for driving offences, that he would be welcomed in prison by "big, ugly, hairy strong men who've got faces only a mother could love that will pay a lot of attention to you - and your anatomy".
"Scary isn't it?", he went on, "But that's what will happen."
Heap appeared at Sydney's Downing Centre Court on Monday charged with driving without a licence, failing to stop at a police alcohol check point and driving dangerously. Mr Maloney banned Heap from driving until 2013, placed him on a 12-month good behaviour bond and ordered him to carry out 150 hours of community work.
Breaching any of these conditions, he said, would land the teenager in prison, where he would "shower with the gorillas in the mist down at Long Bay jail", referring to a correctional facility in Sydney's southern suburbs.
"Have you got any idea what it's like in there? Any idea at all?" he said. "You wouldn't last a night."
Following Mr Maloney's threats, Heap has promised to "grow up and knuckle down".
