Anyone else a big fan of this pub? We have started to make this our watering hole on Thursdays due to this being a proper old pub on the inside (when you walk in a real log fire giving the whole pub a really smoky atmosphere) and a pint of ale being £1.89 think the lager isnt too far off that price either. Food looks 1/2 good as well.

For a round up, central London, good pub, friendly staff, cheap booze, what more do you need??

Long been a fan of this place. Nice pub, beer is a bit hit and miss though. Isn't there a lager called Dwarf in a Box or something?

The Griffin then on Clerkenwell road... pounds in a pint glass type of thing in a pub....

Excellent pub. Really enjoyed the atmosphere when i was there last summer.

Another one i liked was the Coal hole on the Strand.

'Proper' pubs seem to be rare these days. The Lamb in WC1 has long been a favourite. Anyone been there?

It was Ayingerbrau - they've renamed it, so no more Man in the Box.

This is my local when I'm actually at work and get the chance for a pint, beer is well kept and reasonably priced, service is impeccable, place is tiny but the chicken wings are lovely

Yep - I used to be three doors down from the Cheshire Cheese, but I prefer Old Bank of England

The Knight Templer or the White Swan are also ok pubs too

Had an awful lot of lost evenings in there due to:
Lack of mobile reception
The morish and strong weissenbeer they sell.

I've been frequenting it regularly for some 15 years.
Consistently good curry house within 3 minute walk as well. What more do you want ?

TOCC is minutes from my offices, but i cant abide the place.. I guess too many coachloads of japanese tourists all arriving at the same time, all ordering a half pint, and all standing in the doorway, got to me after a while! Its worth a visit but could never be my local. Its worth the ten minute walk up to the Jerusalem off of hatton garden for a proper pint of St Peters finest in a real pub. Tricky to find but that keeps the morons away.. a real diamond of a pub.
