How safe are cigars?
Discussion
Just out of interest, how damaging is the occasional smoking of a cigar?
I want an unbiased answer - the net either throws up the usual no smoking brigade or the pro smoking groups. Nothing really balanced sounding, even the stuff I read on the beeb website reeks of government health agenda.
So whats the truth? (relatively) Harmless to have one now and then, or not?
Just to add that I have only smoked a handful of cigars, all cheap (i.e. not hand rolled!)

Just cant see them being that bad if you are only having a handful a year, say every other month or something?
As I said, I have only ever had cheap ones bought in a bar whilst pissed. I quite fancy ordering a couple of proper hand-rolled jobbies just to try so I cant see that doing any harm
Unless I end up liking them....
Can you get addicted to cigars?

I tried this. Ordered a selection of good' ones, they arrived and I selected the biggest, fattest one and by the time I got the the end I felt like I was half drunk, half stoned. It would probably take 12 cans of lager to get me in that state. I was completely out of it and then puked my guts out. Odd because I used to smoke cheapies all the time. Pretty unsafe tbh (and I say this as a smoker of cigars). There are loads of factors; how you smoke, what you smoke, how often you smoke and genetic factors etc. but ultimately there's a really good chance that as a regular smoker you'll die horribly. Be wary of statistics though as these vary greatly at an invidual level because of the factors mentioned e.g. some have very low probabilities and others will see ~100% chance of cancer even in low doses due to genetic predispositions.
As an aside do you know that if you eat a whole cigar you'll die? Isn't science wonderful!
Edited: Corrected piss poor spelling.

Used to smoke the odd one a few years back, but my life insurance bills, which my provider insisted it were cheaper to cover totally non-smoking than 'the odd cigar' (I've never smoked anything else) stopped the habit.
There is very little better than sitting outside on a nice, warm summers day, puffing at a hand-rolled ciger
BUT I always had the most dreadful mouth the morning after - like I'd gone to sleep with an old teabag under my tongue, which can't be good for you.
