Leaving sky for freesat...
Discussion
How many of you are doing/done this?
I ask because someones' bought all the bloody Humax Foxsat + systems and I want one to stop giving piles of cash to Sky for crap films and sports I hardly watch.
What channels do you get with the Humax, or is it just the ftv channels listed on various websites?

And get rid of the news packages and maybe kids ones if you have none.
Our Sky+ is about £16 a month I think, not too bad if you make sure to record all the stuff you like!

Sure, its one thing you can do but why pay Sky £120 p.y. when on freesat its £0?
I have the kids channels for my 2 yr old, though tbh its only 1 channel he really watches and 5 has mornings for kids so not a big sacrifice!
The only channel I will miss is Dave for TG re-runs etc...

You can just cancel Sky and your box/card will continue to work for Freesat, but providing you have a decent TV aerial and freeview, I don't know if there are any channels on Freesat that aren't on Freeview?
I have sky+, and would like to record cartoons etc for little'un, though dont want to pay Sky £10 pm just to use it! afaik, the only free to air HD channels are BBC HD on freesat, and channel 4 HD on sky HD with some ITV HD stuff on freesat too
apart from that, freesat is pretty much the same as what you get on sky if you just cancel your subscription (I have a non-HD sky box with a 'free-to-air' card - which actually costs 20quid)

I just got one of these:
http://www.topuptv.com/
160 GB of recording space, more than happy with it, if that is of any help

Get Virgin media installed and get a Starview box off ebay - search for 'cable box'. I know someone that just bought a box and he gets all the channels for nothing and they cannot tell. It's only £5pm or free with an internet package.
Do you mean all the freeview/freesat channels, or cable ones such as Sky One etc?s.m.h. said:

You're not seriously suggesting that Virgin still don't encrypt their signals in a way which is actually secure, are you? I thought this sort of thing died out with analogue cable when all one needed was a frequency-shifter.Virgin do encrypt but allegedy some rich oz chap who owns some tv channels and a few newspaoers paid for it to be cracked and then released the info on the web.

Hence ITV went bust and te ozzir charges $$$$$ for his NDS encryption.
Thing is everyone is now watching sky for free via his own crack on virgin!!!
