NEED new Bank Account ASAP
Discussion
This is not a debt question, I've used the same current account for the past 15+ years and it's always been fine.
BUT, over the past 6 months the account has been on-line hacked each time the bank apologise and refund the monies taken but every time it happens it throws my direct debits into chaos whilst they sort it out.
Guess what, Friday night I check my account and it's been hacked again!! AHHH...
So that's it, what I want to do ASAP is open a basic account elsewhere I wont use on-line banking again, nor do I need or use an overdraft facility and just want a bog basic account that my wages can be transfered into and my direct debits paid form.
BUT looking on-line and those I've found take 7-10 days to open, whereas what I need is to open an account straight away to be able to arrange for my wages to be transfered into as there's no way I want the risk of them being paid into my current account again.
Before anyone suggests their own account or the bank of PH I'd really appreciate some proper pointers..
Thanks

Has your online account been hacked or your card details stolen?BUT, over the past 6 months the account has been on-line hacked each time the bank apologise and refund the monies taken but every time it happens it throws my direct debits into chaos whilst they sort it out.

I'd be more concerned about my pc's security if your account's being hacked. Keylogger or similar perhaps?
Can't help with the original request though, sorry.

Have you tried First Direct, i've used them for about 12 years... They used to even give you £100 when you opened an account..BUT, over the past 6 months the account has been on-line hacked each time the bank apologise and refund the monies taken but every time it happens it throws my direct debits into chaos whilst they sort it out.

They are very good, great customer service, UK call centres, online banking is very good too.. I have current account, mortgage, home insurance all through them now...
I would be inclined to not only change your online details but your card's pin too. Cameras and card detail recorders etc are often on ATM machines. Everytime i use one i run my hand underneath the bit where the light is at the top. I once found a small camera there. So it does happen...
I don't think strangers simply 'hack' bank accounts, and not the same one several times. They use information that is available to get into them. Such as someone who knows where you keep your bank details. Or has access to your PC, where your passwords are set to 'autofill' or stuff like that, such as a keystroke logger. It is nigh on impossible to 'strong arm' your way through passwords.
You would do better investigating your own security first, rather than move to another bank.
I have a basic bank account with the Halifax which my wage goes into, or did, when i was working.
Its worked well for me for the last few years, no overdraft facility, just a visa debit card, and the ability to set up online or telephone banking, and the ability to do 'over the counter' transactions.
When i was looking around for a basic bank account, the HSBC offer a very basic account, with no 'over the counter' abilities, and only a basic ATM card, with no chip and pin or debit type abilites.

Wandered into Lloyds some time back to try and open an account, had with me a driving license, utility bill etc, two/three staff sitting having a chat.
I asked if it was possible to open an account with the ID I had, was told in no uncertain terms that I would have to book an appointment, and what was I thinking just walking off the street, and it would take at least an hour, they were extreemly rude, and made out that they were doing me a favour by even talking to me!!
Walked into Barclays accross the road, net result, account opened 20 mins later, plus a cup of coffee!!

OK sorry, I was typing the original post in full rant & steam mode..
So to clarify, the four times tally to x1 on-line hacked (told so by bank), x2 bank employees who were bent (were moving small amount out of loads of accounts), x1 (latest one), don't know yet as only just found out.
All in all I'm just sick of the hassle and grief.

I'd go with the first reply - ask them to switch off online banking.
Mind you, that said, it sounds like it might not be down to any of the banks actions (bent staff aside as that sort of thing can happen anywhere) so some lateral thinking might be useful, such as do you always do online banking on the same PC, have you changed your online banking passwords recently, responded to any emails from the bank inviting to you test/change your details.
I'd say it's next to impossible to hack a bank account by luck or brute force so I'd be thinking the reasons like outside of the banks control.
