iPhone Screen

It seems like quite a few people on here have an iPhone now; I got one a couple of days ago, and the surprisingly helpful guy in the shop told me to invest in a clear film screen protector as soon as I can. I've got to keep this thing for 18 months; never had a phone so long before, so I want to keep it in a respectable condition; my only concern about the covers is, when they get a bit grubby, how easy are they to remove, and do they leave a grubby residue all over the screen?

Easy to fit and remove, the screen is glass so quite resistant to damage. I suggest a rubber case for it aswell, drop it and it should be ok.

Bling it up with one of those screen protectors that is like a mirror, until you switch it on and can see the screen perfectly.

I've seen those, but like the clean black look at the moment.

I've read the 3g doesn't have the scratch resistant screen of the gen1, so i guess the protector is even more important??

had my 1g phone with my keys in my pocket without any protectors for a year now and not a scratch yet.

My Touch has been chucked around all over the place and the back is scratched to hell, the front is still completely scratch free.

A phone is a disposable item - after 18 months/2 years you'll bin it for a new one. Stop looking after it like it's your baby.

My iPod touch is over a year old. No screen-protector. Still in perfect condition.

Except you know, it kinda helps to have it protected when if you drop it in the first month of ownership and break it. That happened to a friend with his Iphone. Had to pay big bucks to sort it out.

I have an Iphone because it's useful in my job, not because I am a posing phag who wants to show off to everyone.

I've had my 3G iPhone since July and the screen is still perfect - no marks at all - and I carry it everywhere in my pocket.

If you get a screen protector you're then on that slippery slope that leads to getting a belt clip for it!

There is a cool rubberised screen protector which apparently is the same stuff that is used on helicopter blades, it makes the iPhone screen a lot more tactile and protects it well.

I smashed my screen just before xmas and had to replace the digitiser and the lcd Got my phone back and intend on getting some more helicopter skins.

My first gen iPhone was well hard, the 3g just seems to be a bit more fragile in the screen dept, so I would invest in a screen protector.

The screen isnt as tough as the 1st iPhone but I use mine without a case or anything. The only scratch on it is tiny. Considering the size of the screen, i'd say its still quite robust. It's glass not stty plastic.

Considering the comments on here I'm not going to bother; I've never felt the need to look after my phones too much, but the thought of having one for 18 months, and destroying it in the 1st month is what made me think of this.
