Another new phone question

Boring I know but please hear me out.

My Mrs currently has an O2 contract 'phone on a 12 month contract, the contract is in my name and every year as part of her birthday (which is soon) present, I upgrade said 'phone.

This year she is dropping hints about an Iphone (her sister in law has one so she has to have one too, if you know what I mean!).

I've done a bit of research and in order to upgrade..(read keep my side of the bed warm)..I have to go for a 18 month contract with o2 in order to get said 'phone.

My question to the masses, before I go all guns blazing with o2, is that does anyone know if it's possible to get a Iphone on a 12 month contract or am I just pissing in the wind?

O2 attach 18 month contracts to all of their 'shiny' phones I think...I got a Blackberry and they wacked me with one. Thats the way it goes I'm afraid!

I'm sure she'll be pleased with another present halfway between birthdays though!

Not sure about the Iphone but i have convinced them on my last couple of upgrades that I will only take a 12 month contract.

They gave me the N95 8gb on release on a 12 month contract.... like i say the Iphone may be different but any other phone is fair game
