Good Evening All smile

As many of you know (or don't!), as well as being a member of the good old gassing station here at PH, I also run a parenting website for mums in the North East.

One of our members lost sadly lost her 5 month old baby around a year and a half ago, and the baby, Abigail, was buried in a local cemetery. As with many babies, the parents decided to create a 'garden' for Abigail, rather than just having a plain grave, which I am sure you will agree does not look offensive or unpleasant, and it brings comfort to the family to feel they are able to do something for the baby by tending to these gardens.

Stockton Borough Council have now decided that everything excluding the headstone and one vase must be removed from the graves for 'Health and Safety Reasons' and that the graves are now going to be grassed over instead.

This is bringing great distress to many of the parents, including Abigails, as not only are they losing the small comfort and pleasure they get from these gardens, they are also having to face the feeling of people walking over their child's grave while the area is grassed and then in future mown.

A petition has been launched asking the council to rethink this ruling, and if you agree with it, it can be signed here: http://www.petitiononline.com/abigail/

Come on PH'ers, this is something that deserves to be rallied around.

I have no connection to the original poster or tha family involved, but I feel strongly enough to have signed the petition.

It took me 20 seconds.

Please spend 20 seconds on something worthwhile.

Done lost a brother when a Baby who has no documented Grave for similar reasons. Thought this was long gone!

Cheers
Well, as said, they can have a headstone and one vase, but as yet Abigail doesn't have a head stone so it would be a 'blank' grave. Though as a group we have offered to help the mum financially (the reason Abigail has no headstone yet), she has said she wants to save the money herself as she feels it is the very last practical thing she can do for Abigail.

Thank you everyone for your support smile
