About 71 or 72 I would have thought...so no,not very old

Quite easily. I went to school with his son, Christian, between 77 & 87 (ages 4-13) and he was certainly "known" at school in the early 80s.

Martin has been a sales manager / sales director in the IT industry since the early 90's and still is.

Having said that he did take a group of us to Amsterdam on a very amusing trip many many years ago.

Hmmm... There was definitley a son from a second marriage named Christian too - I also went to the same school near Reading. between 79 and 83.

This is really sad, we were only talking about David and Ski Sunday in Meribel last week with some friends, as we remarked how, unlike Ron Pickering, David Vine must be alive and well somewhere. We even had a laugh singing the theme tune up a chair lift.

Just got off the phone to my Dad who was very close to tears (which is very unusual for him) whilst on the phone to me about this. He only spoke to David yesterday as he and my Dad worked together since about 1982.

It's such a shame, but at least there seemed to be very little suffering involved for him.
