I was thinking about this the other day. It will be strange to be in a world soon where noone who was actually in WW1 is alive anymore. For some reason that makes seem more distant and less real, once there is noone left who was actually there. Which wont be good.

I know it's bit imperialistic and distinctly not what the leftie apologists would ever allow, but when last one drops off his perch, I sincerely wish he gets a full State Funeral with Honour Guard at Westminster Abbey and is laid to rest in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

That would be closure, and a fitting epilogue.

This has been bothering me to. When I was a kid, we regularly had WW1 and WW2 fighters and survivors coming into school and talking to us - kids now wont have that and it'll become distant and just part of history. It concerns me that they wont have spoken to someone first hand about what went on and that has lead to them having the comfortable safe life that they had.

Then again, my dad said it was nothing new - when he was a kid (back in the stone age) they knew people from wars before that and that it just time moving on.

With total respect, perhaps when the last man dies, we should move on and confine these wars to the history books. How long should we commemorate? Forever? I'm not saying we should stop remembering, just maybe tone it right down.

I really think Schools should be doing more to educate children about WW1, to keep the memory and respect alive.
