What to do - Edinburgh, Wednesday lunchtime.

Suggestions, please, for a couple of hours amusement in the middle of Wednesday in Edinburgh - I'm flying in at 10.30am, but not meeting the customer until 2pm.

I've not been there before, but I strongly suspect the place is chock full of American friendly tartan-tat shops?

Bus to city centre takes about 25mins, If you've nto been before I'd imagine you could easy kill the time just checking out the castle, royal mile and princes st.

Early lunch or coffee at valvona and carolla (round the back of harvey nicholls) would be a good choice.

A lot more to Edinburgh than tartan tat shops! Post this in the Scotland forum and you'll get lots of good advice.

Or if you can be arsed, go to the castle. Brilliant views of the city.

Hence my comment about tartan tat shops - I've seen enough of them on my regular jaunts into Glasgow to last me a lifetime.

St Mary's Close should kill the time nicely, followed up by lunch at Mama's as Plotty suggested (go for the spicier tomato base - tis luvverly).

Massimos at the top of Leith Walk opposite the Playhouse is an amazing Italian and does great pizzas (way better than Mamas IMHO) and other lovely Italian cuisine.

It's not long open and definitely worth a visit - I have no affiliation to it.

I had my 21st there about 100 years ago ! Was there a few weeks ago and it was just as good.

Comparing Edinburgh with Glasgow is like comparing London with Bradford.

Edinburgh is probablt the best city in the UK, so much to do and I'd agree the castle is good but even a jolly along George Street and/or the High Street would be a good use of your time.

Yes it sounds crap and corny, but (depending on the guide) is actually really interesting.
