bought a £2.5m house while earning £160k p.a. scratchchin

Of course, I'm sure he financed the purchase in an honest manner, given his record as an upstanding member of society.

How easy is this to find out?

Do the Lords have similar rules to the Commons with regard to disclosure of all income streams?

I hope it turns out dodgy.....again.......it was only a matter of time!!

I think it's a foregone conclusion that it's 'dodgy'.

The only question is how well has he hidden his tracks - probably very well.

Personally I still can't quite believe that a)They brought him back into 'the fold', and b)He's a 'Lord'. What a country......

Using publicly-available records, the Standard examined Lord Mandelson's finances and his proceeds from a decade in the property market. Even on the most generous possible analysis, we have established that there appears to be a substantial gap between the amount of money he was able to raise and the price he paid for his latest house.
Oh dear. Shame, I wonder if we could strip this national embarrasment of his peerage now?

Come on, lads...

If you were a banker and The Whispering Death knocked on your door, would you dare refuse a mortgage..?

And I expect the bank to pay me interest on this mortgage...I know where you live

Wouldn't it be simply fabulous if in the wake of this investigation the mortgage was found to be fraudulent and the lender called it.....

I doubt it's in his name - he'd be stupid to with previous (although that doesn't rule anything out)

If the mortgage ain't in his name, neither is the property.

It's not his property - yet.

You know what will happen.

He'll be surrounded by hacks on the street when he'll shout "LOOK! THERE'S CAMERON MURDERING A PUPPY! A PUPPY!!" and the attention will be drawn elsewhere.

not allowed while he was an EU Commissioner, which is when he bought the house. Try again.

I do hope you're not suggesting that whilst running around fluttering his eyelashes at Russian Oligarchs he was also pocketing cash.

It's not as if he would ever do someone a politcal favour for personal gain, is it?
