Why do they feel the need to remake this I wonder?

Jackie Chan will be Mr Myagi
and Will Smith's son, Jaden, will be the weed turned hero...

Shouldn't some films just be left alone? especially as given new faces and scripts - stories can be 'changed'.... whereas no-one re-writes classic books...

money I suppose...

Lack of ideas and playing it safe would be my bet. Why risk a new untested concept when they can almost guarantee anyone who has seen the original will queue up zombie like to see a remake of an old film.

You are right...as with most if not all remakes it should be a case of "Step away from the camera" cop

Thats bad.

But not as bad as the news I heard on here the Speilberg is remaking Old Boy with Will Smith as the central character.

Wonder if 'no live octopus eating' will make it into Smith's contract.

Maybe they'll remake the four "3 Ninjas" films next tongue out

Just face it, this film will suck. But people will still go to watch it by the truckload and so they'll make more.

Edit: Not QUITE as bad as I thought - I've just re-read it and realised that it's not Will Smith himself playing the titular Karate Kid. That's slightly better as I don't think he can really pull of being portrayed as a child...

The thing that made Karate Kid though was the 80s hairdo's - where will it be without those?

Perhaps they should remake "Stay Hungry" next - that was one of the wierdest films I ever saw...

I hate the idea on the principle that it makes me feel old. Surely The Karate Kid wasn't made that long ago that a remake is required already?

Wax on, wax off.

He had the crane kick - that's how he won rolleyes

Of course I'd have just waited for him to have to put his foot down and move towards me again, since he was already losing, and then battered him but that wouldn't have made a good film - I can see the subtitle now "Weedy kid get's beat up, learns Karate, take part in competition, gets crap kicked out of him"

Actually I would have paid to see that film...

Daniel-san. Not son. He may, in fact, be somebody's son, but Mr Miyagi did not adopt him at any point biggrin
