My mother works for the NHS as a carer for the elderly, just been talking to her about her day ect.
She went to visit a woman who is 95, and all her life worked as a maid, after she's paid all her bills, food ect, geuss what she's left with?

king pounds, what the fk is going on with this country?
She also has one of them old gas fires, with the bars across them, she has 1 section lit whilst stood over it with a coat on, thats just bloody discusting, she's 95 for fks sake.
My mother even walked in on her today, on her hands and knees on the steps sweeping up!
What are some of the people on the dole doing? sitting on there arses with a "can" whilst this woman is sat without a tv most likley cleaning up the majority of the day.
What is really going on with this country, its fking awful how someone of that age, has worked all there life, paid the goverment all there life, to be just tossed aside like that.
Anyway, rant over, just needed to get that off my chest.

I too am a carer, and was very shocked and upset to see the way our elderly are treated. in a lot of cases there families are to busy. Its left to our lot to check their ok and make sure there warm, fed and cleaned. I have been known to spend extra time with some that need a bit more help but cant afford the care bill. I don't get payed for that time but i couldn't give a st.
There was one lady that had chronic diarrhea. When i got to her i had to strip her off, shower her change her night dress, scrub her carpet as she'd messed on it due to her not being able to reach the toilet. I went to put her clothes in the washing machine. Guess what her daughter had taken it because she couldn't afford a new one. So for the last three months this 89 year old lady had been hand washing her own clothes. I took her clothes home and washed, dried, ironed and returned to her.
Its horrendous how their treated.

So for the last three months this 89 year old lady had been hand washing her own clothes. I took her clothes home and washed, dried, ironed and returned to her.

Oh's Nan was rushed to Frenchay on Monday with a stroke (she has cancer and a weak heart) and bless the NHS there.
the help and care she is getting is wonderful.
all the staff we have so far seen have been giving the best care and time and attention they can, despite being so so busy.
also having a large spreadout family the staff are being patient and kind in talking to famly on the phone about how she is doing and getting on.
i do feel the elderly are forgotten in lots of ways, we are a large family and someone sees her everyday in her house (aunts and uncles and cousins etc of the OH,) and she was lovely neighbours who without ever having been asked take her wheelie bin up to the top of her path steps for her and listen out/look out for her too.
Luckily she has a large family that do care but the OAPs youth club she goes to on a thursday, is, for some of the people that go there their only contact with others to sit and chat, apart from maybe the meals on wheels and odd trip to local corner shop.
her youth club i think are looking into the adopt a grandparent scheme to try and forge a link between the old and the young whcih i feel is a wonderful idea.

That is one of the worst things I've heard in a long time. People normally say I'm quite cold but that makes me feel sick.
