All I had was an AMR audio file off my dad's phone who works for a lost baggage company at Heathrow..

I converted it to MP3 then made a WMV file with a suitable pic off the net.

This is a real passenger that flew with Emirate airlines last yr and they lost his baggage good and proper.. He was staying at a hotel in Croydon, the phone number he gives out is the hotel..

All of the staff at Emirates have heard this and they sent it to me dad's work..

Thing that always puzzles me re lost luggage is that they say that since Lockerbie that no unaccompanied luggage is carried on flights? If that is indeed the case how can they lose luggage or it end up in another country, surely the terrorists missed a trick the time terminal 5 opened, think how many bombs they could have "got into the system" that day!!

The bags are screened by airport security, then dumped in the baggage hall and put onto the plane by baggage handlers. If there's a lot of turnarounds in a short space of time and they're short staffed, then they'll occasionally leave before a bag or two or three has made it through security- the plane can leave if it's bags down, but not if it's bags over. At T5, the bags would all have been screened, it was the baggage handling side that got snarled up.

When a bag makes it onto a flight it's not supposed to be on, it's a bit of a huge deal and the dispatcher/baggage guys usually get a pretty good bollicking- it should be impossible if the paperwork is done right, but when it's mega busy, I guess things can get skipped. I'm not sure if there's fines for such instances, but it wouldnt surprise me. I remember once when two flights were delayed because they switched planes at the last min, without anyone telling the baggage guys until they'd loaded eachto the top.

That's brilliant. I love it where he accuses the baggage guys of sitting around all day doing nothing. Where I worked they were run off their feet 12hrs a day & didnt have time to answer the phone. The other thing I love is the way they go apest at you (the only guy in the world with the power to speed up/get info on your bag's whereabouts) because some brainiac working for a different handling company in another airport lost their bag. Some days I miss it. And then I remember weeks and weeks of this!

I once had a luggage miss a connection (it was v tight)

Luckily it was on the way home, I returned on New years day. The luggage was put on the next flight (AMS-MAN) and driven by a guy in a Van to my doorstep.

The luggage arrived on my doorstep a few hours after I got home.

This was with KLM. Can't fault them for service on that occasion.

Only time I have had baggage go missing was flying from Melbourne to Hobart on a single flight. ther are no changes or stops on teh route and it is only a couple of hours. The luggage went from Melbourne to Sydney, then Sydney to Brisbane, Brisbane Perth, Perth Sydney, Sydney Hobart! All in the space of 24hrs too! More fecking travelled than we are!

I feel sorry for Emirates (and most of the airlines there) as it is not an easy job. Queues six or seven deep, all moaning and giving grief to the poor agents taking the reports. This passenger never received his bag via the delivery company, so he either collected it from the airport or it never came into Heathrow. He didn't do himself any favours though, as does anyone think after that tirade that Emirates were going to pull out all the stops? I particularly like the third message where his voice descends into a very controlled fury - I can visualise a face like Private Pyle (in Full Metal Jacket) when he was about to shoot his NCO......

PS the telephone number he read out is, being an 0207 one, most likely a Central London one to which we presume he probably moved.....
