The locals tend to favour Gumtree if they're renting out their homes for a month or so. That would be your cheaper option.

Whilst it's not what you asked there is a string of reasonable B&Bs opposite the festival theatre on Gilmore place. Some even have "parking" which is quite the commodity round these parts.

I'll complicate matters - its for the period over new year!

We used Scottish apartments just before Christmas booked through last minute.
The apartment was ok seeing as we didn't spend a lot of time there but we were in some new builds by the harbor, it was close to the big shopping center but about 15mins in the bus to get in to the center, they do have apartments in the center around the royal mile but its allocate on arrival, (unless you can arrange with them in advance i guess).

The apartment was clean and tidy but the finish was very poor, however we only used it for sleeping so didn't mind to much, had good cooking facilities though.

Any questions fire away

Ker-ching!

Not going to be cheap. I know a chap who has a place in Canonmills - I can find out the details if you'd like?

Fair enough! If you can't find anything giving Gumtree a view closer the time would be worth while though!

RE: the post above by Miguel. I think the area he's talking about is Leith. You want to avoid that like the plague as the road works have fked up all the transport into the city centre and that won't be cured by next year. It's also a bit well.. ste.

stayed in modern apartments about fifteen minutes walk from the centre last summer. Opposite direction from Leith. Nice and clean but someone else paid. Think it was around 120 for a two bedroom place.
