So, cigarette advertising is banned.
Sponsorship is banned.
Soon, it seems, display of cigarettes in shops will be banned.
How on earth would you launch a new brand?
I cannot imagine how you'd get any worthwhile exposure.
Any ideas?

Wouldnt launching a new cigarette brand given the general feeling towards smoking in most countries be like launching a mangle or similarly archaic product?
There is no route to market but its a relatively pointless market to enter.
I have to disagree...There is no route to market but its a relatively pointless market to enter.
'Developing' countries who have got past the 'New Infrastructure' stage and are branching into careers and disposable income but have yet to reach the Enviro Regulated b
ks that the 'Developed' Countries are currently entering... are extremely buoyant and growing markets for any kind of cash based vice. Whether it be mobile phones or smokes.Plotloss said:

Well, yes. That was my thinking - I was wondering whether there would ever be any more brands and came to the conclusion that there probably wouldn't. The fact you couldn't tell anyone about it being one area of difficulty. There is no route to market but its a relatively pointless market to enter.

The sort of places that haven't become Advertising Brand w
es like 'the West.'Take SA for example... the very Developed Areas will be buying the Marlboro/ Benson etc but the poorer areas (who have homes/ jobs etc) but don't have the same exposure to Branding and have limited funds available will purchase the cheapest option and not very often from legitimate wholesale stores/ shops.
As a New Brand you 'only' need to get product available at the right cost to these sort of areas. Not worry about your Brand image. (Well, in the case of cigarettes anyway)

I'd set up a mutually agreeable tie up with a company, selling Product X, where there is a symbiotic relationship. We can then market them together; buy Product X, get the fags half price or buy the fags, get the Product X half price.
A tie in with Nicorette would work like a dream for both companies.
