I'm looking for the full monty and wondered if anyone could offer any guidance. Primarily where there are good deals to be had. Saville Row is far beyond my budget but conversely I'm presumably buying for life so I'd rather not buy something poor quality that falls apart. £500-750 seems to be the range for a 'complete package'.
Only other thing I'm wondering about is style - I prefer the Argyll to Prince Charlie Jacket but it seems that the latter is generally preferred and looks a bit more formal.
Thoughts/Advice kindly appreciated.

For your price range it would be worth a day in Edinburgh going round the Kiltmaker's sales. SOme great deals going on right now. I'd go up to Edinburgh and go to KinlockAnderson it's in Leith and easy to get to.

The advice of a day in glasgow/edinburgh sounds good - loads of places specialise in this sort of stuff and the budget you have quoted sounds about right.
Go for the prince charile jacket - my dad bought a argyll and has always regretted it.
I love my highland dress - the ladies love it and it saves blowing several hundered quid on a new suit every time you get invited to a wedding!

Personally, I never wear a Prince Charlie and no one has ever said a word about it. I usually tend to find they are too short at the side, although I rent rather than having one custom made.Go for the prince charile jacket - my dad bought a argyll and has always regretted it.

If you ever saw an episode of house doctor where the guy had a pretty horrible (yet huge) house in Edinburgh with 70's carpets and furniture and scary masks in the conservatory, that's Geoffrey the kiltmaker mentioned in one of the links above.
