I was wondering this yesterday. Apparently the guy in the shop said to me. you cant play things from computer directly through your TV. You have to put them on cd. You need to have the correct output on your laptop, ie svideo or vga, if your tv has these too jobs a good un, if not you may need adaptors.
most TVs these days will have vga or svideo

Load of tosh.You'll need some cables. What TV & computer they are will determine what you need. ie if you have HDMI out on your PC and an HDMI socket on the TV, that'll be the simplest solution. But an older PC will probably need either an s-video cable and a 3.5mm headphone jack to phono cable.

My TV is a Samsung & has a computer setting in it's channels so you can use it as a monitor, just not sure how you connect it up & with what?Famous Graham said:

Sometimes a bit of a faff getting the right audio sockets though.
The simplest is probably s-video which is a (usually yellow) socket along with a red and white socket for audio on the telly. Often on the side or the front for consoles. Chances are your laptop has an s-video out for that, but you'll still need to connect the headphone socket to the red + white on the tv.
Won't be as good a picture, but it'll suffice.

A 19-month old tv ought to have a VGA socket.
You most prob got one with the TV. Have a look through all the spare cables/ instructions. They're blue on either end, with 3-rows of pins.
If not, then these can be bought from anywhere; pc world most likely, but they will charge you. Try a a local/ indie computer store.
in simple terms; you connect the laptop to your TV in exactly the same way one would connect a pc to a monitor.
then simply connect the 3.5m headphone jack (these tend to be a pale, pastel coloured green.)
If all else fails, have a look for a divx player, as then you can simply drag 'n' drop the film onto a disc - without the need for converting into DVD format.
apple tv It's all well and good connecting things ok but I found I could never get the picture scaled correctly over VGA and the quality was frankly appalling.
The reason I asked about the PS3/360 was that they have the facility to act as media players, reading content 'served' from the laptop. A quick Google reveals there is software around for using the Wii in a similar capacity though.
