Theres a new version of Trivial Pursuit out, the level of question depends on the number you roll and there is a little man that goes round the outside of the board and depending on what zone he is in you can steal pieces of pie and move peoples pieces to the wrong side of the board.
You want to try some less mainstream but equally as good stuff. We've been playing a bit of Pandemic recently, along with some Agricola and Puerto Rico. All good fun. Pandemic can be very short games and is very straightforward, Puerto Rico fairly simple and slightly longer. Agricola can be very complicated if you use all of the cards and can last for ages.

Those games are all great, but might be a touch complex at first... Pandemic is pretty simple I suppose.
Really good casual boardgames that can be learnt quickly are Carcassonne and Ticket To Ride. The difference between these and stuff like Risk and Monopoly is that there's no dice involved and very little luck.
Both available in big Waterstones, or off the net.
