best washing machine?

Our washing machine just threw a rad so I guess I need to buy another as the wife refuses to go back to the dolly and peg method.

So anyone know a decent make of washer with an 8KG or s load and good eco rating please?

hotpoint aqualtis supersilent 7.5 kg A+ energy.Her indoors made the purchase of this machine and i am impressed with how quiet it is,however it makes 2 annoying clicks when it has finished its cycle think its to do with the door unlocking.

Or buy a Miele, and get up to 10 years warranty thrown in.

Not that you'll need it, because it's unlikely to break.

However, on a cheap machine, you *will* need the 5 year warranty.

by the time it the warranty runs out, if it breaks, there will be another one on offer with better technology.

John Lewis new washing machine. Our old one just packed in and this one seems to be the business!

We went for a John Lewis own brand one when ours went last year. A decision we don't regret.

It might not have an 8kg drum, but no one has told my wife that! So guess we might be calling on the warranty when the bearings object to it!

She doesn't realise how much wet towels etc weigh!

Miele are not the be all & end all, M-I-L had her's about 5+ years & the electronics blew up and were "uneconomic" to repair apparently. Is a very hard water area to be fair though. Ended up with a £500 odd contribution from the warranty company for a Siemens, which is still in service 3+ years later.

Wouldn't recommend either a Hoover or a Hotpoint either, as we have (it seems) had nothing but bother with both of these makes and they have had no hard water problems to contend with.

It would seem no company makes a reliable Washing machine these days, the days of a machine lasting many years is over. It is such a ballache when they breakdown, I want reliability not a long warranty. I too want to buy a machine of quality next time that has an easy to clean filter that doesn't pour water everywhere every time you clean it. Will be waiting it seems for a long time - hell freezing over maybe.

We are about to replace our old one with an LG Steam Direct Drive - 9kg and (I seem to recall) a 10 year part warranty ....

Gets good reviews and seems to do an excellent job of cleaning and reducing creasing, whilst being and A++ energy rating.
