Wedding Rings On Men - Views....

Hi Guys

I am getting married this year in May.

However, I am not going to get a wedding ring for myself as I am of the view that the only jewellery men should wear are wristwatches.

This seems to be the view shared by my Dad's generation and a few of my friends (although some do wear wedding rings).

I was wondering what your views are.

simple plain gold band - traditional and symbolic without being flashy or expensive - emits a certain amount of class....your new mrs would rather see you with a ring on your finger, regardless if she currently says she doesn't mind one way or the other...do it as a gesture to her

I've got a wedding ring but never wear it, I tried for a short time but it irritated me and got in the way so it's in a drawer somewhere.

I have a plain platinum band. 4 years after getting married I have just got used to it.
My dad never wore a wedding ring because he was a boat builder & it was one less thing to get caught in machinery etc.

Both my Grandads wear them, they were both civil servants and didn't do manual work.

Wedding rings are fine IMO, a plain gold ring that isn't too wide FTW.

A low cost simple ring for the ceremony and photos. Then wear it on special occassions.

Im facing the same dilemma, i just dont wear any jewelery at all, never had, never want to.

For the money you are going to spend, it may as well be something you actually want.

I got married last September and have a nice Platinum ring.

I never used to wear rings before as they got on my nerves but I have now got used to it.

If your wife didn't want to wear a ring you would feel a bit pissed off so you should wear one to prove that you are both in it together so to speak.

Plus you can always take it off when you are out with the lads.

Exactly what I did, except replace IWC Spitfire with Tag 2000 Classic, (I was 22), and don't have it engraved.

I just don't like the feeling of a ring on my finger.

If others want them I have no problem with it but it isn't for me. If my wife didn't want one then I would have no problems with that.

My Dad is similar, when he was working (Navy Engineer) in the engine room he didn't wear it, but when he was in uniform he had it one. Now he's retired, he wears it when leaving the house. However, you can see that he doesn't wear enough for it to be comfortable, he plays with it

Personally, I like seeing a married guy wearing a wedding ring, to me it shows a commitment to his wife (I've known men that didn't wear theirs that are cheats... )

Men only started wearing wedding rings in the second world war, as a reminder of their wife back home.

It's a fairly modern custom.

We did discuss it and she is happy for me not to wear one. She has an engagement ring and will be getting a wedding ring.

I'm intrigued by this watch idea - is the custom for the lady to buy you something?

I always wear mine and only take it off when I am doing something which may damage it or cause it to be lost.

I have known mates who wear one, but it comes of when they are on the town, which suggests to me that they know it is a barrier to them pulling. Since I don't have that desire for infidelity I wear mine with some pride that someone who is a top woamn herself has been able to see passed the fact I look like Shrek, and marry me.

Oddly, in meetings I often notice which blokes wear a wedding ring. I am not sure why, but I suppose I associate them with stability and committment.

My chubby fingers grew out my wedding ring within a year of getting married. Haven’t worn it since.

I was ambivalent about wedding bands for years.

I now sport a plain titanium band, and it's fine.

I was always under the impression that a gent can wear no more than three items of jewellery, one of which is a watch
