Legal Guardian...

Hi

If someone is in hospital and you are their only relative but not direct family, does anyone know how you can become their legal guardian and take control of their assets (i.e the person is mentally ill and won't be leaving the hospital)

They don't have a will or any property - but they may have old bank accounts, and it would be a shame to see the money stuck in a bank account forever.

Said person has been in the hospital for over 2 years and doesn't even recieve statements on the accounts she has - so finding them will be another job.
