We live on a quiet cul-de-sac on a housing estate, it is very quiet, and once it gets dark there's hardly any noise. That was until recently, when a neighbour's 15 year old daughter has got a new boyfriend. In the early hours of the morning, most mornings, I hear a car outside. I look out and the boyfriend has arrived for his night time fk. He stays about half an hour, before getting into the car, and driving off. The question is, as I responsible neighbour I feel I have to say something. Without it seeming like it's none of my business, how do I let them know that the fan belt on the boyfriends Saxo is slipping? paperbag

Weird, have you considered he may work nights and be popping in for a cuppa on the way home?

Were you born a grumpy old git - or did it develop over time?

Back in the day the sole purpose of my existence was to 'get some'... it was a hard enough challenge as it was - without curtain twitching cock-blockers getting in the way!

Post it note on windscreen:

"That screeching sound you hear early in the morning is either a) your 15 year-old GF in ecstacy or b) a slipping fan-belt. I'd start with b)"

LOL, a mate of mine nearly got arrested once. Because he used to park up the road until his GF's parents left for work..... Local curtain creeps thought he was casing the street to rob it, how plod laughed when he told them why he sat there each morning......

However you do it, make sure you keep the embarrasment minimal for all involved.

...

The poor chap might not realise it's not supposed to do that, and it doesn't happen to everyone.
The parents might be a little hurt when if you tell them their daughter is seeing someone with such scant disregard for basic car maintenance.

Tread carefully wink

He's probably seeing the girlfriend because he's sick of tightening his own nuts.

Perhaps on he can persuade her to slide under she can have a bit of a fiddle and get everything performing correctly, ensuring that everything is well lubed.

I seem to remember something about "half an inch of free-play" but I'm not sure if it's relevant.

I think this is the sort of comment they http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... would like to ban me for

Who cares? We need to think about the serious issues here, a fan belt slipping!
