Well, y'see. Notionally - Sir Fred Goodwin has already done the "decent" thing. Stepping down and not exercising his million-pound payout option. However, I read somewhere that he'd already amassed an £8m pension and someother huge sum of shares (in the millions). So, it's like it'll be painful for him.

This is an urban myth. In the great wall street crash of 1929 there were only 3 confirmed suicides of bankers
I think there was a jumper in Wall Street at the end of 2008.
There was another guy who shot himself at home in the US
I'm sure there was a British banker recently who achieved a 100% rating in moving on
There is a German investor who lost $400m who used a train earlier this month to opt out
All we need now is the boss of RBS to do the honourable thing and take a pay cut by leaping from his office. Actually, it would be nice if quite a few of the bankers on the boards of these companies took a small pay cut.

Many in banking knew that RBS jumping in for ABN Amro ahead of Barclays was a stupid offer and would be one they very much regretted one day.....came a bit sooner than expected, maybe, but I have little sympathy as it was a totally stupid move.
But where are the people that made these decisions, why is it that they are not accountable for their illformed judgements?
Hate to say it, but it needs one of these banks to "go". I think then the pressure would maybe reduce on the rest, unless they are all intertwined with each other.

would have been little different is Barclays had 'won' Amro...
makes you wonder if theses clowns know what due diligence actually means?
What I can't quite get my head round is that Amro lent this guy £2.5B un-secured? if the guy is a billinare, how come they have not gone after him for the money?

They don't seem to go, just get nationalized. If the Government had let one fall then there would be none of this going on today. The 'players' all know that the Government will step in and ensure that the survival of the banks so until they are nationalised they are fair game
