Anyone of them will do was long as you don't want to claim more than £1,000 a year and don't get a critical illness
Edit: Put these words in the right order "Not" "Paper" "Worth" "On" "Written "The" "Are" "They"

Critical Illness policies are good products as long as you buy from the correct provider and are completely HONEST on the application.
Bright Grey are a specialist provider who are pro-active about paying claims, I used to work for them. Best consult a recommended IFA for full assessment, it's not as painful as it sounds and they are obliged to match a policy which suits you by law.
People are cynical about all insurance but as long as you are geniune and read all the small print before signing anything, then it may prove to be the best money you ever spent.

I can point you in the direction of a great IFA who will be totally honest with you. He told me not to bother as I have no dependencies!
Good advice if for life cover - do you need to own a house when you're dead? Course not...But for income protection, critical illness? Different story - how would you pay your bills - rent, mortgage if you can't work?

That sounds like some companies are better at others at covering a wider range of defined illnesses?
We have just had our mortgage cleared due to a critical illness claim so I can verify they are indeed worth the paper they are written on.
We were with Legal and General, they remove the burden of "declaration" by asking for your medical records up front, so this removes a large part of the, "wont pay, because you didnt tell us about ...." that a lot of companies use. Its a pain in ass to be jumping through hoops to get the cover, but its VERY worthwhile when you claim.
The only thing to watch for, although it applies to all these policies, is make sure you look at the wording for the defintion of illness. For example the Cancer one has quite a list of exclusions.
That said, I would recommend them as throught the claim process they were faultless.

All companies will cover the 'big 4' - stroke, heart attack, cancer, diabetes - This covers about 90% of claims made. There is usually another 20 or so additional illnesses covered such as loss of vision, mental incapacity and others so the range of cover is good.
You do hear occasionally about someone who has contracted a rare tropical (and usually nasty!) illness which isn't covered by their policy. This is due to no stats being available for the insurer to base the rates on. Thankfully this sceanrio is rare but is usually the one which makes the press and paints the insurer to be the big, greedy money grabber.
Like I said, as long as the big 4 are covered, the additional illnesses covered are much of a muchness...shop about and read the small print. Specialist will always be cheaper than the big guys and better to deal with...
