Urgent advice please - Wedding trauma
Discussion
I know you all like a trauma so here we go.
My sister in law to be (soon) Went to her final wedding dress fitting recently. She has lost weight since the dress was sold to her and the dress shop were going to make alteration to suit.
Anyway, she turned up last week and they've fecked up the dress royally. It basically didn't even nearly fit and she was accused by the shop of having put on weight. The lady in the shop was less than polite, ruined her day badly and has made a number of phone calls to her saying how many hours she's having to put in to fix the problem whilst never accepting responsibility for what amounted to a miss-selling of the dress at the first appointment. For complex dress fitting reasons she apparently couldn't try the dress at the first fitting because it was on a mannequin however she was told that the dress was available for her size and she was verbally guaranteed that they would fit this dress to her.
Anyway. She's got to go back tomorrow and the suspicion is that the dress won't be good enough. She paid for it on credit card. What would you suggest is the best way to proceed...?

well that was essentially what was said last week by the MiL. It doesn't sound like these people are the type who give money back and we're nearing the big day so she really needs to draw a line under this and move on if it's not right but she doesn't want to be out of pocket.

So they altered it without her having tried it on? Have they taken it in too much? What happened at the last fitting?
Basically yes. I believe they have taken it in too much. There was no last fitting. She chose the dress from a standard range by a designer, they told her it was the last one and they didn't want to take it out of display she got a relatively good price. She went back last week for the fitting because it was sold as a minor adjustment that should have been done when she'd finished getting to wedding weight and it turned out to be completely wrong. She has since downloaded the sizing chart from the designers website and found that it was never appropriate for her. Soovy said:

k Off as my response If they are a chain then get on to head office and if they are an individual shop then make clear that their service is unacceptable and if they don't deal with it action will be taken. I suggest the local paper gets notified and if they make a phone call and or want to photograph the poor distraught bride (good emotive story) then Bob is you Mum's Brother!
Good luck

Had she porked up in between sizings then?
Down you muppet. She's lost weight. Which is typical for brides (I hear) hence the fittings.

Yeah yeah, so you had a happy day. Bloody show off.
So did they even measure her? Is there anything in writing or was it all done verbally? If they've not kept their part of the contract, tell them if they don't put it right in time, your soon to be SIL will have to find another dress and send them the bill! Also worth speaking to the credit card company to see if they can assist.
