Train from MK - Liverpool
Discussion
£15.90 was the cheapest I could find - on http://nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/
12:25 departs Milton Keynes Central
13:53 arrives Stafford
14:09 departs Stafford
15:09 arrives Liverpool Lime Street

Hoops I jump through getting from the northeast to London are usually booking singles and breaking the ticket journey at an unpopular stop.
EG, Darlington-Peterborough arrive 9.45 then Peterborough-Kings Cross depart Peterborough at 9.46. Allowing you to stay on one train but pay less.

This is with London Midland. It's (a lot) slower than Virgin, but a realistic price12:25 departs Milton Keynes Central

I just looked this trip up in the great book of Journeys. This is what they suggested..
MK to Swindon by charabang = £2.50.
Swindon to Hereford by shire horse and cart= free+ all the hay you can eat.
Hereford to Shrewsbury by tandem =£5 + someone to talk to.
Shrewsbury to Liverpool by coracle.= free.Fishing will be good but your arms will be f**ked by the end of the journey.
Time of journey 5 days. It's the long way round but you won't get it any cheaper....
