Does anyone actually spend any time on them? What can you do? What is the point?

Was watching a clip on the news before saying that people can have sex in these online worlds? WHAT???

Is it just something to pass the time and allow a fat sweaty spotty bearded geek to pretend he's not?

I tried Second Life for about 2 weeks. After being told off for repeatedly wearing a house on my right leg, I got bored. It's just a graphical chat room that's sluggish compared to normal chat rooms and you can play The Sims without tasks. Imagine, if you will, World of Warcraft, but without the killing and quests.

Indeed, an MMORPG but with nothing to do.

I tried Second Life to see what the fuss was about, after constantly being harassed by flying penises and constantly having people trying to intimidate me into becoming a stripper, I went back to Eve.

lol Sounds quite good, if only to piss off people who take this Second Life far too seriously ... smile Wasn't there a story a few months back where a couple underwent divorce proceedings because the husband wouldn't stop marrying/talking to women on Second Life?

yes

The irony being that they actually met on Second Life in the first place. Then she logged on as her character one night and found his character doing the deed with a stripper. So she filed for divorce and IIRC is seeing someone else she met in Second Life now.

I can't understand it really. I like to fire-up the X-box and play CoD or Halo but why just live a normal life on a computer.

WoW seems to be different kettle of fish though as there seesm to be a challenge and point. But I hate doing anything on a PC when I'm not at work.
