I bought a van last year for business use.

Can I claim running costs etc for it at 100%, rather than a car where you can only claim at,say, 75%?

Thanks,

Andy

Same rules apply to cars, vans or ANY assets that have a mixed business/private useage.

If the van is genuinely used for business purposes only, then you can claim all the running costs of the van. If there is an element of private useage of the van, then some apportionment should be made.

I am assuming you trade as a sole trader and not through a limited company. The way private useage of vans and cars is treated is MUCH different in limited companies.

What catagory does commuting fall under? Business or Personal?

Don't really use it for going to the shops in - almost exclusively hooked up to a trailer with a car on the back, travelling to race circuits.(And back!)

I'll go fo 95% then.

Thanks Eric.

Sounds like you could go a 100% to me. As long as you have a seperate car for private mileage I doubt HM R&C would quibble should there be an investigation.
