Can anyone recommend somewhere to put important documents, other than in a locked box in my flat. I ask because I move around the country a lot due to work and don't like the idea of leaving them at home. Would a bank safety deposit box be ok, and if so, is it something that costs a lot?

Could be done, but unless they are an existing client of the firm it is unlikely that they will be willing to help. Most solicitors are trying, since the advent of de materialisation, to reduce the amount of stuff they store.

Your best bet sounds like a safety deposit box, but be warned as to who you use as you might remember the stories from last year when the Police raided a number of these sorts of places...

Cheers. Any recommendations for a safety deposit place? The papers arent anything dodgy so no concerns regarding the police.

I am fairly sure all banks do it (might have to be a customer though).

We use our local bank to store these kind of things (and quarterly backup tapes etc) for work so that's definately an option. We use Barclays as that's who we bank with.

scan them and put the images on cd, much easier to store elsewhere.
