I used to suffer from mouth ulcers since I was a kid. I'd bite my lip and next day get a mouth ulcer or they would just appear. Went to the doctors about 2 years ago for heartburn caused by excess stomach acid and was prescribed Omeprazole capsules to reduce the production of the acid. Works excellently, no heartburn but a side effect is no mouth ulcers either, not one in 2 years. Before I would have one about every 2 to 3 months.

Any reasoning?Edited by J500ANT on Thursday 22 January 18:29
Hot salt water is meant to be very effective, teaspoon of salt in hot boiled water and a good rinse.
Or Corsodyl mouthwash, use at least 1 hour after/before toothpaste and only for 5 - 10 days, it causes staining.
I had what i thought was a mouth ulcer , couldnt shake it but eventually it turned out to be a piece of bone that had pierced my gum , probably a piece of pork chop (not a whole one
I did try this stuff which calmed the inflammation down no end reading off the tube
Adcortyl - in Orabase for Mouth ulcers (Triamcinolone Acetonide
It forms a cover over the ulcer (or wound).

Salt washes are good at ensuring you mouth is clean, but taste vile. Corsodyl mouthwash is good too, but I would recommend Difflam spray or mouthwash.
I used to get bad ulcers on my throat and my GP used to prescribed Difflam and it always worked a treat - but it can be bought over the counter now.

I suffer from them quite badly when I get run down or stressed out. During this period if I also bite my lip or gum then it's a guaranteed mouth ulcer which can last for up to 2 weeks for a bad one.
I use salt mouth wash - 1 teaspoon of salt, short glass and a some warm water. Just keep swishing it round for as long as you can hack it. Do that a few times a day and it really helps it. Also I use Lysterine mouthwash a few times a day as well. Just keep your mouth as clean as you can.

Can be an early sign of Vit B12 or folic acid deficiency, can be caused by stress, can be caused by trauma from eating sharp things like crisps carelessly
Ladies can get them due to hormonal disturbances.
All the tips you've had are really good, it's worth trying them all. For the VitB12/Folate deficiencies then make sure you eat plenty of legumes like cauliflower/broccoli and so on.
Any ulcer which persists for more than 14 days needs to be checked by a dentist. Just in case it's something nasty.

A cotton wool bud dipped in TCP, give the ulcer a going over with that and get more sleep. Usual reason for mouth ulcers is being run down, so I've been told. I usually get them if I've been lacking sleep for a period of time.
Also works for me. Old school TCP mouthwash and cotton bud the ulcer too.Gassing Station | The Pie & Piston Archive | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
