Tears of the Sun

Flicked on Five US this evening, I hadn't seen this film for years and I forgot just how good it was. Sure it has it's flaws, but it manages to blend an emotional storyline and a good level of action to make one of the best modern war movies imho.

Got this on DVD and think it's a cracking film. Apparently it started out as the 4th Die Hard film before it got a bit more serious

I don't really see how :s It's based off a book, I have a copy somewhere. Of course in the book the Lt dies...

But a cracking film and right up there with We Were Soldiers and Black Hawk Down. And just like those 2, I didn't watch it at the cinema because I figured it would be x hours of the usual macho YEAH, AMERICA! crap that quite often crops up in these kind of films (*cough* Fail Harbour, *cough* U571)

I regret my prejudgement now.

I took my wife to watch it a couple of years back, it had her in near hysterics, some of the villagers torture/mutilation scenes. Didn't seem to make any difference when I told her it was only a filum.

Had this on my DVD shelf for about 2 years without watching this. This might be the kick up the back side I need!

A very watchable film no doubt but up there with BHD?!? Behave yourself!
